Corrie ten Boom

Back to all People
Corrie ten Boom, a Dutch watchmaker, played a significant role in rescuing numerous Jews from Nazi concentration camps during the Holocaust of World War II. Born in the Netherlands to a family of watchmakers, she demonstrated immense courage and compassion during the tumultuous war years. Together with her sister, they transformed their home into a sanctuary for Jewish refugees and members of the resistance movement by constructing a hidden room behind a false wall to hide Jews from the prying eyes of the Gestapo. Unfortunately, on February 28, 1944, they were exposed by a Dutch informant who tipped off the Nazis. This led to the arrest of the entire Ten Boom family who were then shipped off to prison. Tragically, her father Casper died in prison 10 days later and her sister Betsie met a similar fate dying merely 12 days before Corrie's eventual release. Despite the pain and suffering she endured at the hands of her captors, Corrie ten Boom found the strength to deliver her message of "forgiveness" in over 60 countries after the war. "Trying to do the Lord's work in your own strength is the most confusing, exhausting, and tedious of all work. But when you are filled with the Holy Spirit, then the ministry of Jesus just flows out of you."
