Back to all People
Deion Luwynn Sanders Sr. is an American coach and former football player who spent 14 seasons in the National Football League and 9 seasons in Major League Baseball. He won two Super Bowl Titles and made a World Series appearance in 1992. He is the only athlete in history to ever play both in the Super Bowl and World Series. However, despite his success as an athlete, Deion felt empty when he said: "I was going through the trials and tribulations of life. I was pretty much running on fumes. I was empty, no peace, no joy. Losing hope with the progression of everything." Sanders then attempted suicide by driving his car off a cliff, but survived. Fortunately, his counseling with Bishop T. D. Jakes introduced Deion to Jesus, who changed his life. "My faith is everything. It's the gas that propels the courage, the truth, keeps me going. It's the wind, it's the wings, it's the air that pumps into my lungs, that provokes me to live."
