Dennis William Quaid, an American actor, is best known for his starring roles in Breaking Away, The Right Stuff, The Big Easy and numerous other films and most recently playing President Ronald Reagan in the biographical film Reagan. Quaid received a Golden Globe Award nomination for his role in Far from Heaven. The Guardian named him one of the best actors never to have received an Academy Award nomination. Growing up into a Texas working class family, Quad's parents were a real estate agent and electrician, while his older brother, Randy Quaid, also found fame in acting. In High School and at the University of Houston, Dennis studied Mandarin Chinese and dance, but he eventually dropped out to pursue an acting career in Hollywood. Quaid's breakout role came with the portrayal of astronaut Gordon Cooper in the critically acclaimed epic The Right Stuff. However, he career faltered after he fought anorexia nervosa, after losing 40 pounds to play tuberculosis-afflicted Doc Holliday in Wyatt Earp. He also battled and recovered from a cocaine addiction. Despite his history of failed marriages and drug addiction, Dennis Quaid has been candid about his Christian faith when he said: “After I did Great Balls Of Fire, where I played Jerry Lee Lewis…I was in rehab about six months after,”... "and I went back and read the Bible again. This time, it was the red words of Jesus in the New Testament that really hit me, and that was the beginning of my personal relationship with Jesus Christ.” It will be interesting to observe what role Dennis Quaid choses to play now as part of the Christian Story.
