Frederick Buechner

Back to all People
Frederick Buechner, an American author, minister and theologian, is the author of 39 published books. His early life was marked by instability due to his father's struggles to maintain stable employment, resulting in relocating their residence every year. Tragically, at age 10, his father committed suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning. His family's move to Bermuda introduced some well needed stability into his life. In this quote, Buechner makes reference to our built-in understanding of morality and desire for peace: "The Jesus who is the one whom we search for even when we do not know that we are searching and hide from even when we do not know that we are hiding."
