Back to all People
Dr. Joseph John Thomson, more noted as J. J. Thomson, was a physicist and educator, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1906 for his groundbreaking research on the conduction of electricity in gases. Seven of his future researchers would then go on to receive Nobel Prizes. Thomson is credited for the discovery of the electron, the first subatomic particle to be identified through research. Thomson held the view that scientific discoveries act as confirmation of God's creative genius when he said: "As we conquer peak after peak we see in front of us regions full of interest and beauty, but we do not see our goal, we do not see the horizon; in the distance tower still higher peaks, which will yield to those who ascend them still wider prospects, and deepen the feeling, the truth of which is emphasized by every advance in science, that "˜Great are the Works of the Lord."
