After his naval career, he took over the families peanut farm after his father died and for a year he and his family lived in public housing due to their weak financial situation. Following his naval career, he returned to Georgia to manage the family peanut farm after his fathers death. During this time, financial struggles led the carter to live in public housing for a year. Carter went on to serv in the Georgia State Senate and as governor, and the rest is history. A man of deep Christian faith, Carter often prayed multiple times a day during his presidency. He once affirmed his belief by stating: "I believe that we are saved by the grace of God because he loves us provided that we have faith in Jesus Christ." . Mr. Carter was greatly influenced early in life after hearing a sermon by a young man who asked: "If you were arrested for being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you?"
