John Carew Eccles (PhD, Nobel)
Back to all People
Dr. John Eccles, an Australian neurophysiologist, shared the 1963 Nobel Prize for his work on the synapse, a key biological structure utilized in brain processing . Through his detailed examination of the brain function, Dr. Eccles rejected evolution and embraced divine creation when he said: "We come to exist through a divine act. That divine guidance is a theme throughout our life, at our death the brain goes, but that divine guidance and love continues. Each of us is a unique, conscious being, a divine creation. It is the religious view. It is the only view consistent with all the evidence." Eccles was a practicing Christian who recognized the existence of the conscious-self as evidence for a divine, loving Creator, who endowed humans with numerous extraordinary gifts, including our mind.
