John Glenn, an iconic figure in American history, led a multifaceted career spanning roles as Marine Corps aviator, engineer. astronaut and U.S. Senator. From early in his life, Glenn was captivated by the concept of flight, when at age of 8 years old, he embarked on his first flight, igniting a lifelong fascination with aviation. He earned his private pilot's license 12 years later. During WW II, John enlisted in the U.S. Navy flying 57 combat missions in the Pacific, and later 63 flying jets in Korea. He subsequently flew as a test pilot and later an astronaut in response to the U.S. falling behind in the space race with Russia. John Glenn carved his place in history as the first to orbit the Earth aboard a U.S. spacecraft. Decades later, at the age of 77, John Glenn journeyed for his final trip into space on the 25th flight of the Space Shuttle Discovery. From its window , he personally viewed God's vast universe when he said: "To look out at this kind of creation and not believe in God is to me impossible. It just strengthens my faith." John Glenn died on December 8, 2016. One can only wonder if he now observes the same universe as a Christian, from a bit different vantage point?
