Sir John Theodore Houghton, a Welch atmospheric physicist, was the co-chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's (IPCC) and shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize with Al Gore. He was knighted in 1991. Houghton's has been a significant environmentalist voice within evangelical Christian circles and was professor in atmospheric physics at the University of Oxford, He stated his faith in Jesus as follows: "But the fact that I'm a sinner who needs to be forgiven and that Jesus died to forgive me is something very basic in my understanding of the whole faith. And the result of that is, of course, that I've increasingly, I think, felt a connection with the person of Jesus, which you can only describe as a relationship of, I suppose, love..."
