Michael Dwayne Vick, a football coach and former NFL quarterback, played 13 seasons in the league becoming the all-time leader in quarterback rushing yards. Born in 1980 to unmarried teenagers, he grew up in public housing while his mother relied on public assistance. His father introduced him to football at the age of three. Excelling in high school football, Vick went on to lead the Virginia Tech Hokies to a national championship game. He was selected first overall by the Atlanta Falcons in the NFL Draft, becoming the first NFL quarterback to rush for over 1,000 yards in a single season. His football career was derailed when he was suspended by the NFL for participating in dog fighting and gambling for which he served 21 months in prison . During his incarceration, Vick experienced a profound reconnection with his Christian faith. Reflecting on this transformation he stated: "I’m upset with myself and, you know, through this situation I found Jesus and asked Him for forgiveness and turned my life over to God." He also remarked: "God has blessed me with a second chance that is something I will value forever." After his release from prison, Vick signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, where he led the team to a division title and throwing the longest touchdown pass of his career. He would later be honored as the Comeback Player of The Year. On December 18, 2024, after brief stint as an NFL coach, Vick was named head football coach at Norfolk State University. Did Vick's Christian faith shape the new role he would play in the Christian Story?
