Neil Armstrong

Neil Armstrong is the first human to step onto the surface of the moon. His fascination with flight was initially sparked when his father first took him to the Cleveland Air Races. At the age of 6, he experienced his first actual flight. Armstrong's first solo flight on his own was at the age of 16, even before obtaining his driver's license. His continuing interest in flight motivated Neil to join the Navy. He made his first carrier landing in 1950, later flying 78 missions over Korea. During an incident on an reconnaissance run over Korea, he managed to survive after ejecting from his damaged plane over Pohang Airfield. Armstrong was later selected for the Air Force's Man in Space Soonest program, which subsequently led him to serve as an astronaut in the Gemini program. He went on to make history on the Apollo 11 mission, becoming the first human to walk on the moon in 1969. Many years later while on tour of religious sites in Jerusalem, Neil asked his guide if Jesus really walked on the stairs the stood in front of them. After receiving affirmation, Neil commented,"
