Nikola Tesla on Time Magazine 1931
  • Profession: Inventor of Alternating Current
  • Type: Scientist
Nikola Tesla, an immigrant from Serbia to the U.S., was a college dropout who pursued self studies in electrical engineering . He initially worked under Thomas Edison, but later established his own lab. While many of his projects were failures, he made a significant breakthrough in the discovery of alternating current (AC) used for electric motors, which out performed Thomas Edison's competing direct current (DC) in terms of transmitting electric current at long distances and for use in electric motors. His technology was licensed by Westinghouse. Tesla believed in God: "The gift of mental power comes from God, Divine Being, and if we concentrate our minds on that truth, we become in tune with this great power."
