Rosa Parks, an American civil rights activist, was known for her resistance to Alabama segregation using her Christian faith as inspiration for change . On December 1, 1955, in Montgomery, Alabama, Parks courageously defied a bus driver's order to vacate a row of four seats in the "white" section in favor of a white passenger, and relocate to the "colored" section . Her act of defiance demanded great courage. Yet, due to her Biblical upbringing, she had little fear based upon her trust in God: "As a child I learned from the Bible to trust in God and not be afraid. And I felt the Lord would give me the strength to endure whatever I had to face. God did away with all my fear."
