S. Truett Cathy

Back to all People
Samuel Truett Cathy was an American businessman, author and philanthropist. He founded the fast food restaurant chain Chick-fil-A, which has over 1,800 locations. For half a century, he taught Sunday school at the First Baptist Church in Georgia. While maybe not so popular with his customers, Chick-fil-A is closed on Sunday for which he is quoted as saying: "Our decision to close on Sunday was our way of honoring God and of directing our attention to things that mattered more than our business." If you look at cups and food packaging for both Chick-fil-A and IN-N-OUT Burger, you might notice references to Bible verses such as "John 3:16." Cathy did not fear publicly referencing the part he played in the Christian story.
