Toddbeamer
  • Profession: Airline Passenger
  • Type: Hero

On September 11, 2001, Todd Beamer, a 32 year old father of two with a third child on the way, found himself aboard United Airlines Flight 93.  Upon becoming aware of the 9/11 hijacking in progress, he contacted the supervisor on the in-flight phone.  He then recited the Lords prayer, implored "Jesus Help Me",  and then recited Psalm 23 which includes the words, "Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil...".  In his final act , Beamer rallied his fellow passengers with his last recorded words, "lets roll".  Together they rushed the cockpit to reclaim control of the plane, leading to a struggle that ultimately resulted in the loss of his life and those of 39 other passengers.  However, UA93 was the only hijacked terrorist  flight not reaching its intended target, possibly saving hundreds of lives.   Peggy Beamer, Todd's wife reflected on her husband's sacrifice stating: "The Lord has been gracious to us.  The heartache is real, but the loss of Todd has not devastated us. God has been the refuge we taught our children He would be."  This was apparently Todd's last role to play as a hero in completion of his Christian story here on earth, only "to be continued" in the next chapter of his spiritual journey.
