William Thomson, 1st Baron Kelvin, often referred to as William Kevin, was an influential mathematical physicist and engineer of the 19th century. He was so prolific in his work that his name lives on in the science of thermodynamics as the "Kelvin" scale of temperature, where "0" degrees Kelvin is -459 degrees on the Fahrenheit scale, commonly known as "absolute zero". Despite a life-threatening heart condition at the age of 9, Thomson thrived to later gain notoriety as a maverick in the scientific community. Thomson was a devout believer in Christianity and saw his faith as supporting his scientific work. This Scots-Irish mathematician noted that: "If you study science deep enough and long enough, it will force you to believe in God."
